Smile (Finally) Friday
It’s a sunny, beautiful day; I launched two major projects yesterday and third is wrapping up today; and I finally slept soundly last night.
It’s amazing the effect a clear mind has on mood and perspective. All the personal and professional stress of the past three weeks is starting to melt away, and I feel like my old self again.
Here’s to a fabulous weekend!

Sweetness on Wheat
Last year on Valentine’s Day, I went to lunch at the Potbelly near my office. I sat at a table that positioned the left side of my body against a wall so I could focus on my lunch and whatever crap I was looking at online while gazing out a window and thinking about my to-do list. I was mid meal when two guys in the IT department I manage walked in and asked to sit with me - partly because...

– The past seven days have been among the most difficult of my life, both personally and professionally. Maybe this time period has been difficult because the worlds of work and personal are orbiting simultaneously, and I can’t seem to get one to align in order. Maybe I just suck at managing my...

How is it possible to have horrible adult acne? So horrible that it is on my neck?
Reason #5860203568750920486294840682 I hate my life presently.

I’ve recently been alerted to a startling Kardashian fact. (Sorry to admit — I do not watch Kourtney and Kim Take New York. I would rather eat glue.)
Mason Disick, age two, has an imaginary friend named “Donna.”
Life is so rough in that house, and those people are so vapid, that the…

Happy Birthday!
Wishes for the happiest birthday to my dear friend Kelly!
Have you ever met someone under completely random circumstances and forged a lasting bond? I did and you should too! I’ll tell you why: You’ll meet someone like Kelly - one of the most amazing people around.
In no particular order she’s intelligent, thoughtful, hilarious, inappropriate when needed, caring, pretty,...
How to find out what Google knows about you →
newlywedbalance:
Article in today’s Toronto Star makes it easy to find out what Google knows about you, based on your search history. I surf the web as 25 - 35 y/o female who is interested in beauty, shopping and Toronto - no surprise!
I am half alarmed half fascinated by Google’s analytic power. I’m a 25-34 year-old female who is interested in law and government; technology; home...

– When I was younger and asked, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” the response was usually Vanna White. In my eyes that job was the total package: amazing evening gowns, huge hair, glitzy jewelry, the alphabet (seriously). Here’s further proof that job should have been...
It seems the department still considers the potato a second-class vegetable.
– A spokesman for the National Potato Council, irked that — despite a failed USDA attempt to limit potato use in new school lunch guidelines — potatoes are still passed over in favor of greener, leafier vegetables. (via bencrair)
This is a Potato Appreciation Post.

The Haunting Ruins Of Detroit
all-thats-interesting:
As the global recession has swallowed the United States in its seemingly bottomless stomach, one of the first cities to crumble was Detroit. To document this tragic decline, French photographers Yves Marchand and Romain took to the Motor City and came back with some of the most hauntingly beautiful and compelling images of the recession to date.

The Only Reason I Love the Facebook/Spotify...
I love learning the musical taste of Facebook “friends” through that obnoxious right-bar stream. Today’s gem from a former co-worker: “In the Air Tonight,” “Against All Odds,” - basically the entire Phil Collins catalog. Did not see that one coming.
See ya, 2011!
It’s nine days into 2012, and most reflections on 2011 have long been written and possibly forgotten. I am always late to the party, however, and this topic is no exception. It’s taken me time to come to terms with 2011, and thankfully it’s almost all a distant memory now.
Thanks to E for the format; this post would quickly devolve to word vomit without some structure. I...

newlywedbalance:
Hilarious “rules” for new and old gym rats. A few of my personal faves:
9. “Great job!” is trainer-speak for “It’s not polite for me to laugh at you.”
17. If you see an indoor rock climbing wall, you’re either in a really cool gym or a romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson.
26. A successful gym membership is like a marriage: If it’s good, you show up committed and ready for...
